It sits on the nightstand
and it never touches you.
Spindle reads your breathing from across the room and stages your night while you sleep through it. Scroll to watch one.
Everything else is on you, or under you.
There are three ways to measure a night: a wearable, something in the mattress, or a thing on the nightstand. Only one of them you can forget about entirely, and forgetting about it is the whole point.
- Nothing worn
No ring, no strap, no band
A wearable measures your wrist and infers the rest. It also has to be charged, and the night it misses is the night you forgot to put it on.
- Nothing under you
No mat, no strip, no sheet
An under-mattress sensor reads the bed rather than the person, so a partner turning over, a duvet change or a dog on the covers all land in your night.
- Nothing recorded
No microphone, no camera
Radar sees breathing as movement at millimetre scale. There is no audio and no image, so there is nothing that could be listened to or watched later.

This is the night you just scrolled through.
Lights out
You are still awake, and Spindle already knows. Breathing rate and micro-movement tell it you have not dropped off yet, so it holds the room lighting where it is instead of cutting to black.
Ceramic, cloth, and one red light.
The body is cast ceramic because it is dead weight that will not creep across a nightstand, and because it does not look like equipment. The face is woven cloth over the radar aperture, and it pulls off to wash.
The only light it makes is a single red indicator. Red is the choice that matters: it is the part of the spectrum that leaves melatonin alone, which is why the light on a sleep device should never be blue.
